5 Hair Myths & the Truths Behind Them

Myth 1: Frequent trims will make your hair grow faster and longer

Truth: Trimming your hair does not affect hair growth – the speed is determined on scalp follicles, genetics, and lifestyle choices such as stress levels and nutrition. However, you should should still make sure to get regular trims because split ends can cause entire strands to cleft, which causes hair to become thin and brittle. To provide a foundation for optimal hair growth, it’s important to take good care of the scalp. Start by using our Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-exfoliating Shampoo contain Binchotan charcoal to draw impurities from the scalp and hair follicle, and the vegetable-derived micro-exfoliators remove dead skin cells and product build-up to support a clean, balanced, and healthy scalp. It also contains panthenol, which is a super-vitamin that provides essential nutrients to strengthen the hair roots and shaft to prevent fallout! After shampooing, use our Blossom & Bloom Ginseng + Biotin Volumizing Conditioner, which is fortified with ginger and ginseng to support natural blood flow to the scalp and support healthy follicle growth, while biotin strengthens and encourages new hair growth. Now, this will set you up for some healthy long hair  – NOT frequent trims.

Myth 2: If you keep using the same shampoo and conditioner, they will stop working

Truth: There’s no evidence that using the same shampoo or conditioner over an extended period of time will have an effect on their performance. If you use a natural and high performing shampoo and conditioner formulated with healthy ingredients, there’s no need to frequently switch up your products. Our Be Gentle, Be Kind Superfoods Shampoo and Conditioner are suitable for all hair types and are packed with nourishing ingredients like matcha, apple, kale, and spinach to cleanse and hydrate the scalp and hair. If you like switching up your shampoo and conditioner, it’s worth noting that all of our products are 6-free, meaning they’re free of sulfates, silicones, phthalates, parabens, DEA, and artificial dyes. So no matter which Briogeo collection you choose, you can be sure to get the cleanest and most high performing ingredients! Mix it up or stick to the same products, whatever works best for you!

Myth 3: Coily hair doesn’t grow as fast as other hair types

Truth: Coily hair, also known as type 4 curls, grow just as fast as any other hair texture. However, because of the tight coil, type 4 curls tend to be dryer and more prone to breakage. To combat this, it’s important to layer your hair with nourishing and moisturizing products. Start by washing your hair with our Be Gentle, Be Kind Avocado + Quinoa Co-Wash to cleanse and condition hair without stripping hair of its natural oils. Then, spray hair with our Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave-In Conditioning Spray focusing on the mid-length to ends of the hair to maintain softness and add heat protection. While hair is still damp, apply our Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Avocado Leave-In Defining Creme from root to ends for added hydration and definition, followed by a layer of our Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Avocado Frizz Control Gel for flexible hold and frizz-control. After air drying or blow-drying, add a few drops of our Rosarco Oil to your palms and rub hands together until it’s evenly distributed. Then gently rub your palms through your hair, focusing on the mid-length to ends. The nutrient-rich oils will seal split ends and restore any dryness or brittleness. Hello healthy and LONG curls!

Myth 4: Color treated hair is unhealthy

Truth: Color treatments tend to get a bad rep but they’re not as bad as you think! Bleaching can be harmful because it involves removing color, which makes the strands thinner and more prone to breakage. But adding color does not have that effect at all. What determines your hair’s health is the before and aftercare of the treatment. By using a natural, color-safe, and high-performing shampoo and conditioner post-color treatment, you ensure that the color stays put and that the hair gets essential hydration. Our Rosarco Repair Shampoo and Conditioner contain a blend of rosehip, argan, and coconut oils to restore silky sheen to dry, brittle, and lackluster locks often associated with chemical treatments. But keep in mind that ALL of our products are safe for color treated hair so feel free to pick any collection that suits your needs!

Myth 5: Dandruff is a result of a dry scalp

Truth: Dandruff is actually caused by a type of yeast that grows in an oily environment so having an oily scalp is more likely to lead to dandruff than a dry scalp. This doesn’t mean that you should wash your hair everyday to prevent it from getting oily –  that would just cause your hair to become dry and brittle. The best way to tackle dandruff is to get to the root of the problem by eliminating impurities and balance the oil production of the scalp. Our clinically-proven Scalp Revival Collection infuses Binchotan charcoal, biotin, tea tree oil, and witch hazel to draw impurities and calm irritation, itchiness, and flakes. In a clinical study, 100% of participants said our Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo was effective at reducing flakiness, and 89% said our Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment effectively reduced buildup and irritation. Combat dandruff once and for all – dry scalp or not!
