Why Does the Weather Leave My Hair Dry and Damaged?

It’s officially the season of cold and windy weather, and if you haven’t been taking proper care of your hair, you might not be loving it right now. It’s dry. It’s damaged. It’s staticky. But… Why? What’s going on during the cold months that gets your hair in such a mess? Today we’re diving into the science of it all and giving you some tips on how to keep your locks in shape despite the weather.

  1. COLD AIR: Cold, dry air causes the hair cuticle to lift, letting moisture escape out of the hair shaft. Many women, especially those with already curly, coarse, or textured hair, find themselves with more breakage and frizz during the winter because of this! The strong contrast between cold outside air and the warmth of your beloved space heater also causes your hair to dry out faster than normal, so it’s important to keep it ultra hydrated. Our Rosarco Milk Leave-In Conditioning Spray is infused with our signature blend of rosehip, argan, and coconut oil that effectively restores hair softness, strength, and manageability! Spray it through hair before styling to give your strands an extra dose of hydration.
  2. WILD WINDS: The only thing worse than cold weather is a frigid wind chill on top of it! When exposed to high winds, hair gets easily snagged and tangled. To get the tangles out, the yanking action of your brush can cause further breakage and (gasp!) split ends. To prevent this, spray our Rosarco Milk Leave-In Conditioning Spray through hair and detangle with a wide tooth comb! Instead of combing from top to bottom, start by gently combing the bottom section of your hair first and slowly move up the shaft. This will prevent breakage and make for easier styling.
  3. STATIC FROM LAYERS: When the temperatures drop and the air gets dry, negatively charged electrons fly off the hair leaving your strands with positive charges that resist each other. This causes the static we all know and hate! Layering with scarves, coats, beanies, hats and then touching hair with mittens and gloves also gets the flyaways going. To keep them under wraps, spritz dry hair with our Rosarco Milk Leave-In Conditioning Spray. The blend of oils will help smooth out and condition hair, without leaving it dry or sticky!
